Case File

We are taking some of our favorite LRB beers and aging them in wooden barrels ~ bourbon, rum, tequila, wine. Due to variances in time, temperature, and the barrels, each edition will be unique and no two barrels will ever be the same. Just like justice, barrel aging takes time. But we think you will agree that justice never tasted so good.

The Lineup

Volume 1 – Polygraph Pumpkin Ale

Release Date: December 3, 2016

Our pumpkin ale has a special blend of caramel malts, spices, brown sugar, vanilla, pureed pumpkin, and a touch of hops. It’s like pumpkin pie in a glass! To add to this delectable ale, we aged it in 5 year old whiskey barrels for 5 months to give you extra flavors of oak and warming whiskey.

9.0% ABV, 27.5 IBU, Whiskey barrel aged

Volume 2 – The Executioner Imperial Pumpkin Stout

Release Date: December 3, 2016

This hearty Imperial Stout is brewed with chocolatey, roasted malts, pureed pumpkin, spices, brown sugar, vanilla, and coffee then aged for 11 months in Woodford Reserve Bourbon barrels. You’ll experience the complex flavors of this Stout along with smooth bourbon and oak in every sip.

10.5% ABV, 42.4 IBU, Bourbon barrel aged

Volume 3 – Malice Maple Bacon Russian Imperial Stout

Release Date: February 11, 2017

13 months ago we put our Malice Maple Bacon Russian Imperial Stout in bourbon barrels and aged it to perfection. Maple aroma and a subtle hint of smoky bacon are surrounded by rich bourbon oak notes to create this smooth and satisfying barrel aged stout.

12% ABV, 46.7 IBU, Bourbon barrel aged

Volume 4 – Russian Imperial Stout

Release Date: November 11, 2017

Rich chocolate notes. Pleasant bourbon flavor and aroma. Aged 6 months in oak bourbon barrels.

Volume 5 – Double Barrel Aged Pro Bono Vanilla Porter

Release Date: July 13, 2018

Our Pro Bono Vanilla Porter, aged in two different types of Bourbon barrels. We then blended these barrels and aged it on Madagascar vanilla beans.

10.2% ABV, 38 IBU, Bourbon barrel aged

Volume 6 – Maple Syrup Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout

Release Date: September 7, 2018

This Imperial Stout was brewed with pure maple syrup then put into maple syrup bourbon barrels where it aged on cocoa nibs. Huge on chocolate notes with a pleasant bourbon finish.

10.2% ABV, 42 IBU, Bourbon barrel aged

Volume 7 – Apple Brandy Barrel Aged Imperial Stout

Release Date: September 7, 2018

Imperial Stout aged in Apple Brandy Barrels. Notes of apple, coffee, and chocolate, rounded off with a warm finish.

Volume 8 – Barrel Aged Sticky Situation Cinnamon Bun Stout

Release Date: October 26th, 2018

Aged in Bourbon Barrels, a stout with a complex grain bill containing flaked oats, biscuit malt, honey malt, chocolate malt, caramel malt and roasted barley. Brewed with molasses and finished with vanilla beans and cinnamon sticks.

6.7% ABV, 21 IBU

Volume 9 – Barrel Aged Exhibit Z Imperial Stout

Release Date: May 3, 2019

A rich Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels, then conditioned on cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, and Knowledge Perk IPO house coffee blend. Coffee and dark chocolate rounded off with a warm bourbon finish.

11.8% ABV, 20 IBU

Volume 10 – Standard of Proof Barrel Aged Imperial Stout

Release Date: August 24th, 2019

This rich imperial stout was brewed with a complex blend of malt that has notes of dark chocolate and fresh roasted coffee. We then aged it in bourbon barrels for 9 months to give the base stout wonderful bourbon notes with hints of vanilla

Volume 11 – Imperial Motion to Strike Stout

Release Date: November 14th, 2019

Imperial milk stout aged for 12 months in bourbon barrels. Brewed with lactose and brown sugar, this milk stout has notes of chocolate, espresso, and bourbon.

9.1% ABV, 35 IBU

Volume 12 – Elements of a Crime

Release Date: December 5, 2019

BA Imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels for 9 months, then conditioned on Brazil Monte Verdi coffee from Knowledge Perk Coffee.

9.2% ABV, 50 IBU

Volume 13 – Barrel Aged Habeas Corpus Imperial Stout

Release Date: February 14, 2020

Imperial Hot Chocolate Stout aged in rye whiskey barrels, then conditioned on habanero peppers, cocoa nibs, and vanilla beans. Sweet with a touch of heat, and a smooth bourbon finish.

9.6% ABV

Volume 14: LIMITED SPECIAL RELEASE Barrel Aged Stout in Rua Barrels

Release Date: June 25, 2020

Specially created for exclusive release at Frugal MacDoogal, Imperial Stout aged in a Great Wagon Road Rua barrel.

Volume 15 – Barrel Aged Peach King

Release Date: July 9, 2020

Farmhouse Ale brewed with NC barley and aged in oak barrels with SC peaches and a blend of brettanomyces.

Release Date: September 9, 2020

Specially created for exclusive availability at Frugal MacDoogal, Imperial Stout aged in a Southern Grace Conviction barrel.

Volume 17 – Barrel Aged Mandatory Sentence

Release Date: October 31, 2020

Imperial Stout aged in bourbon barrels and conditioned on Madagascar bourbon vanilla beans.

Volume 18 – Barrel Aged Sentenced to Life

Release Date: December 16, 2020

Barleywine style ale brewed with malt from Carolina Malt House. After fermentation, it was laid to rest in freshly dumped bourbon barrels. Notes of dried dark fruit, oak, tobacco, and leather.
