In early March, we had the opportunity to discuss brewing a collaboration beer for the folks at the Anne Springs Close Greenway. If you are not familiar with the Anne Springs Close Greenway, it is a 2,100-acre natural preserve located in Fort Mill, SC. It offers countless activities including hiking, biking, horseback riding, community events, and more.
The ASC Greenway is home to the Gateway Canteen which opened in 2019. Gateway Canteen is known for its house-smoked meats, delicious salads and sandwiches, and even has local beer on tap!
After a few talks and some beer tasting with Tyler Lee, Dave Piontek, Chris Alves, and Brian Myers from the Greenway, we had some ideas for great tasting and refreshing brews. Honestly, we could not decide between two ideas; so we decided to brew both! Tyler and Dave came down and brewed with Zach and Kevin. We came up with two great tasting beers.
Now for the fun part… Which beer will reign supreme?
Greenway Hoppy Trails Lager vs. Greenway Good News Pale Ale
Hoppy Trails Lager: Classic lager with low bitterness and plenty of piney/citrusy character from dry hop additions of Simcoe and Citra hops. Crisp lager profile lets the hops shine through.
Good News Pale Ale: Simple grain bill of 2 row barley and a sprinkle of crystal malt balanced with citrusy Amarillo hops. Easy to drink with each sip inviting another.
On Wednesday, June 16th, we celebrated the release of these collaboration brews with the Anne Springs Close Greenway Canteen! Stop in the Brewpub this weekend (while supplies last) and VOTE on which beer the Greenway should choose as their signature beer. Both beers are available on tap at the Greenway Canteen this weekend as well!
At the Brewpub, $8 gets you a half pint pour of each beer and a voting comment card. Tell us your thoughts and feedback, as the winning beer will be exclusively available at the Brewpub & The Canteen at the Anne Springs Close Greenway!
LRB is thrilled to partner with such a great local resource that brings our community together with activities and events that get us outside and closer to nature.
